Del Mar Opening Day "Where the Surf meets the Turf"

In mid July, in Del Mar, CA, one of the best horse meets begins. Every morning begins with a cool overcast. I wake up at 6am to head over to the morning schooling session at the track. Its always a great learning experience at schooling to see how the crew there works with the horses; training them in the gate to prepare them for racing. After schooling there is break before post time, so I go cool off with a quick swim in the ocean. From there I get ready and head to the track. As I walk onto the track grounds I am greeted by the hats, outfits, and the beautiful Del Mar sunshine, not a cloud in the sky. The day goes by smoothly due to a great racing crew and great crowd. It really is a spectacle and I recommend to any racing fan that you get out here for a Del Mar opening day. I also recommend to visiting the Brig for its famous fish tacos, stopping by Sbicca's for its great food and its friendly service, going to the Del Mar public beach and take a swim and go for a walk as the coastal train passes by and beeps, and finally if your lucky enough, to attend the L'Auberge opening day party after the races. As every summer approaches I look forward to" where the surf meets the turf" opening day of the Del Mar summer meet and as I sit on a plane on my way back east I start to think about next summer and how I can't wait to come back. Thanks Del Mar for another amazing opening day. See you soon!!
