Nyquist Finishes Strong

On the first Saturday in April, everyone expected a showdown between the two early Kentucky Derby favorites--Nyquist and Mohaymen. They also expected a beautiful sunny day and clear skies. Well...neither happened. Before post time for the Florida Derby, around five rain fronts came in. They sealed the track a few times but it was definitely muddy for the big race. Before the final turn, Nyquist and Mohaymen were side by side, but it wasn't meant to be for Mohaymen. Mohaymen worked hard on the outside of the track the whole race starting from the post position number 9, but never took off at the end. Maybe because it was a muddy track or just too much extra work being that far out on the track. Nyquist pushed a little to the outside on the last turn, but then straightened out, winning the race by three to four lengths. It was an impressive race and I think we'll get to see how good theses two horses are at the Kentucky Derby, especially Nyquist. Gulfstream Park enjoyed a record handle day. The place is really amazing and offers a lot to racing fans--from the seats in the grandstand, seats at the tiki bar, hanging out in the casino or watching the races at one of the many restaurants on the Track's grounds. After a long day, my Dad and I enjoyed some stone crabs. We look forward to seeing these two horses race against each other soon. See you in Kentucky.
