After Creator takes the Belmont Stakes, Summer Racing is Here!!
With Nyquist out of the Belmont Stakes everyone thought Exaggerator being the closer that he is, would take this race easily, but the Big Sandy got the best of him. I always think that a mile and half and the big sandy, which is the nickname for the track due to its deep dirt, means it can be anyone's race. It was, Creator and Irad Ortiz Jr. got the victory. I should've known something was up with Creator when Bobby Flay bought an interest in the horse during the week leading up to the race, ha. As Belmont and Santa Anita end their spring/summer meets it officially means that Summer racing is here. Saratoga and Del Mar begin which I like to think as the best full day of racing any race fan can ask for. Simulcasting of Saratoga Racing ends as Del Mar begins. With the attractive purses on the East Coast it looks like Songbird will be heading to Saratoga, which is amazing. Songbird is running in the Coaching Club American Oaks on July 24. NYRA raised that purse from $300K to $500K which definitely enticed Songbird's team. Songbird is also rumored to be running later in the summer in the Alabama Stakes on August 20th. Whenever Songbirds team decide to race her later this summer it will just be amazing to see her run here on the east coast. I was lucky enough to see her run at Santa Anita and I truly believe you may see her running against the boys at the Breeders' Cup Classic. Its going to be a great summer of racing which I think is going to lead up to an epic race in the late fall at Santa Anita for the Breeders' Cup and I can't wait!!
